This exhibit expresses the love we feel for our town, its people, and our culture. A contemporary take on a homespun traditional craft, this installation pays homage to the historical importance of women’s sewing circles to maintain heritage and build community. Because it was the woman’s role to make clothes and quilts for her family, needle craft was a vital part of a young girl’s education.

In Southern culture, needle crafts have also been used to tell stories and express creativity through the use of symbolism and color. Floral patterns added feminine touches of beauty and decor to everyday life. This contemporary collaboration made by five local women displays that same spirit of handicraft for the simple joy of making and the celebration of life.
