Stars, Stripes, and Scales: Eufaula’s Leviathan by artists Rachel Kurtz and Lisa Reid

Just in time for the Fourth of July, come meet ‘Stars, Stripes and Scales: Eufaula’s Leviathan’—a 16-foot-long, hand-painted alligator by Dothan-based artist and Eufaula native, Rachel Kurtz and artist Lisa Reid from Dothan.

Set against our giant American flag, this one-of-a-kind artwork celebrates our love for America, Lake Eufaula, and our hometown.

Rachel shares the inspiration behind the piece:

“The alligator is the forgotten mascot of our hometown. To me, it symbolizes resilience, quiet strength, and survival. They’re powerful without being loud, and that felt like the perfect representation of Lake Eufaula and the people who call it home.”
